Custom Incentive Program (CIP)

The Custom Incentive Program is designed to encourage the implementation of large energy efficiency projects, which may involve LED lighting and other non-lighting technologies. The incentives are aimed at helping customers offset upfront costs and potentially lower operating costs. 

  • Lighting Retrofits: VPU provides an incentive of $0.075 per kWh saved over a one year period.
    • Measure Requirements:
      • Fixtures & lamps must be certified through a NRTLUL/ETL certifications are accepted. 
      • Fixture & lamps must meet at least one of the following requirements: (1) DLC listed, (2) Energy Star Certified;  (3) 25,000 hours or 3-years warranty. 
  • Non-Lighting Retrofits: VPU provides an incentive of $0.075 per kWh saved over a one year period, for new equipment or technologies that exceeds Title 24 requirements. 
    • The non-lighting portion of this program can include, but is not limited to, variable speed drives, air compressors, motors, energy management systems, chiller and air conditioner replacements,

The maximum rebate provided by the CIP is $50,000, or 50% of the project cost; whichever is less. Funds are limited and rebate amounts are subject to change at any time. Customer must have an active VPU commercial electric account in good standing to qualify. 

Customers that commence with project installs prior to VPU pre-installation inspection and approval may be disqualified from the Custom Incentive Program.

Any measure or equipment incentivized through the Customer Incentive Program will not qualify for VPU’s Commercial Energy Rebate Program.

To get started, Customer must submit a CIP application form to VPU Customer Service and agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Commercial Energy Rebate Program (CERP)

Vernon businesses that install qualifying energy efficient equipment at its facilities may qualify for generous rebates through VPU.  The Commercial Energy Rebate Program is designed to be the quick and easy way to obtain incentives.

The maximum rebate provided by the CERP is $25,000, or 50% of the project cost; whichever is less.  Funds are limited and rebate amounts are subject to change at any time. Customer must have an active VPU commercial electric account in good standing to qualify. 

Any measure or equipment incentivized through the Commercial Energy Rebate Program will not qualify for VPU’s Custom Incentive Program.

To get started, Customer must submit a CERP application form to VPU Customer Service and agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Energy Audit Program

City of Vernon offers no-cost, comprehensive energy audits to VPU electric customers. The energy audit provides a starting point for customers interested in developing a broader energy management strategy. Customer will receive a detailed analysis of their energy usage, followed by recommendations for energy efficient retrofits that may lead to cost savings.

The energy audit is free to all VPU electric customers. To sign up for a free audit, or to learn more about incentives for energy efficiency projects, please contact VPU Customer Service.
