How to Start Your Electric Service

  1. Please review and/or complete the documents below, contact Vernon Public Utilities (VPU) Customer Service with any questions: 
  2. Submit the Application, Load Sheet and Service Report to Customer Service for processing.
    Customer Service will initiate a new electric account for your facility or provide you with information to process your request. For assistance in completing the Load Sheet, contact the Utility Service Planner.

  3. Contact the Utility Service Planner for a service spot.
    A field meeting and/or preliminary drawing will be provided to spot the new service and any utility equipment.

  4. Submit electrical drawings including a single-line diagram, load schedule, and site plan (if applicable) to 
  5. Submit a PDF of the manufacturer's detailed drawings for the new electric service panel to the Utility Service Planner.
    All panels must have approval from the Metering Group before installation and meet Electric Utility Service Equipment Requirements Committee (EUSERC) specifications.

  6. Contact and schedule plan check(s) with the Electrical Inspector and receive an electrical permit from the Public Works Department.

  7. Receive a detailed construction drawing and specifications for underground and substation installations.
    Upon receipt, begin construction of utility infrastructure and call the Utility Service Planner for inspection and approval.

  8. Contact and schedule the Electrical Inspector for final inspection and approval.
    After final approval is received, all invoices are paid, and the application packet is submitted and approved, contact Customer Service or Utility Service Planner for meter installation, service connection, and energization.

Key Information for Residential Applicants:

  • A valid Social Security Number or Federal Tax ID Number is required for the primary account holder
  • Positive ID verification is mandatory for all applicants
  • Applicants and Authorized Persons must be 18 years or older
  • Applications are processed by the VPU Customer Service Representative
  • Incomplete or invalid data may cause processing delays
  • Additional documents may be requested for processing
  • Submission doesn't guarantee service

Service Connection:

  • Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (excluding holidays)
  • Allow 3 business days for processing
  • Connection dates based on availability, subject to next business day
  • Service fee is $10.00 on opening statement
  • Same-day requests require an extra fee of $107.15, if service is off
