The Police Department Detective Bureau consists of a sergeant, a corporal, three full time detectives, and one detective assigned to a task force. The sergeant handles the administrative duties and manages the daily operations of the Detective Bureau.

Each Detective is assigned a specific desk and investigates cases associated with that assignment. For example, one detective handles all of the thefts in the City while another handles all of the robberies.

  • Sergeant Herrera (Major Crimes/Sex Crimes) ext. 130
  • Corporal Encinas (Robbery/Crimes Against Persons) ext. 131
  • Detective Hernandez (Fraud Related Crimes) ext. 132
  • Detective Velez (Property Related Crimes) ext. 134
  • Detective Ourique (Traffic/Vandalism Cases) ext. 135

These officers, while employed by the City of Vernon, work with officers from various agencies to combat specific types of criminal activity. One detective is currently assigned to "Southwest Borders." Southwest Borders investigate the area's drug problems such as distribution and suppliers.
