The City of Vernon continues to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health to remain informed on the latest developments related to the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, as the situation continues to evolve.

What is the Omicron variant?

First identified in Botswana and South Africa, this new iteration of the coronavirus has prompted concern among scientists and public health officials because of an unusually high number of mutations that have the potential to make the virus more transmissible.

With that said, like all variants of the COVID-19 virus, Vernon Public Health wants to stress the importance of getting vaccinated and getting the booster shot. Remember – wearing a mask while in public indoor spaces, maintaining physical desistance, and regular washing of hands continue to be effective ways to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and its various variants.

Pursuant to Vernon Emergency Ordinance No. 1274, masks must be worn within Vernon city limits to protect the health and safety of business owners and operators, their employees, and their customers from the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The intent of the ordinance is to encourage compliance with the State and County Mask Orders.

Following recommended guidelines to protect yourself and others at work and at home will benefit all in our Vernon community.

If you have any questions about City operations during the pandemic, please contact CityAdmin@ci.vernon.ca.us. Staff will be happy to assist you.
