The Vernon Randolph-to-River Greenway Project envisions the conversion of a 1½ mile stretch of underutilized Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Transmission Right-of-Way greenspace to a walk/bike commuter path that connects people in Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) to work, linking the Metro rail and the LA River to the trail to create a seamless integration of transit options. The greenbelt would provide a safe, automobile-free connection to and from jobs in Vernon and nearby cities, separated pedestrian and bicycle paths for the extent of the right-of-way, and passive and active recreational opportunities throughout. We need the community's help to secure permitting approvals for this project - show your support by completing our online form!

Transmission rights-of-way have become a means to infuse valuable open spaces into urbanized areas. Clever, purposeful design can transform unkept, obsolete space to a useful, beneficial greenway, offering a means to travel from public transit hubs through greenspace to arrive at their destination.

Transmission Line PathThe Vernon Randolph-to-River Greenway Project would offer:

  • A contiguous 1½ mile park that has trails for commuters and recreation in the heart of SELA – majority of SELA cities are in the bottom two quartiles per capita of open space for Los Angeles County
  • Connection for Segment B of the Metro Rail-to-River walk and bike path along Randolph near Bissel (as shown), reinforcing regional efforts to improve alternative, sustainable transportation.

The City is actively advocating for park space development of all available segments of the right-of-way to create a greenway through Vernon that would benefit the entirety of the SELA Region.
