Vernon’s Halloween Spooktacular – A Monstrous Success

Press Release Our Halloween Spooktacular Album on Facebook

VERNON, Calif. (October 31, 2018) – Monsters, pirates, and superheroes were out in full force on the City Hall Lawn  as the City held its second annual Halloween Spooktacular on Tuesday evening.  As part of the City's ongoing efforts to engage local residents and encourage their participation in the City's government, the City has hosted regular community outreach events such as this Halloween themed night.  After a successful Summer Family Game Night event and growing social media following, the City geared up for a larger turnout on Tuesday.  More than 200 members of the Vernon and local community attended the Spooktacular, making it the largest turnout yet for a City event of its kind.

Attendees were able to partake in a variety of fun family activities such as trick-or-treating, pumpkin decorating, a bounce house, photo booth, raffles, Sidewalk CPR demonstrations provided by the Vernon Fire Department, and a pirate-themed Halloween maze presented by the Vernon Police Department.  City staff was on hand to provide information about City services and voter registration, and representatives from the LA Metro and Office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis hosted booths about their services.

Vernon Mayor Yvette-Woodruff Perez thanked attendees for taking an interest in the City organized event, remarking, "It is wonderful to see so many of our residents here this evening, taking advantage of this opportunity to learn about the services and resources available through our City and other local government agencies."  Mayor Woodruff-Perez further recognized the importance of events such as the Halloween Spooktacular as an opportunity for City staff and her fellow elected officials to hear from the public and receive feedback on issues affecting the community. In an effort to encourage feedback from all attendees, Mayor Woodruff-Perez addressed the crowd both in English and Spanish throughout the event.

The evening concluded with guests and staff alike looking forward to the next City of Vernon community outreach event, slated to celebrate the holiday season in early December 2018.

The City's Halloween festivities also included guided tours for Vernon City Elementary School Students through Halloween mazes at City Hall.  Photos of the day's events will be shared on the Vernon's social media platforms.
